Racing sailing yacht with AIREX® T92 SealX

Only very few areas today offer this much potential for innovation as the construction of racing yachts. Winning is possible only if one pushes the limits of possibilities.

Dénes Paulovits with his shipyard “Pauger Carbon” knows this very well. He gained fame with his many unique high-performance yachts and catamarans like RC44 and the innovative "flying hydrofoiler "π28" in particular and took on the construction of the two-masted racing catamaran “Fifty-Fifty”.

The objective was to achieve maximum sailing power at minimum weight - an ideal area of utilization for our products. For the construction of the hull, Pauger chose a sandwich solution based on carbon fibers with epoxy infusion and a core made of AIREX® T92 SealX. The criteria for his decision were ease of processing, temperature resistance, and in particular the option of constructing lightweight yet robust components able to withstand rough sailing conditions.

This construction had to prove itself during the most renowned long-distance inland lake regatta in international sailing sports: the "Blue Ribbon Regatta" on the Hungarian Lake Balaton. Winner of this year's race was the Wild Joe Sailing Team with their boat Fifty-Fifty!

Not only was the team the first of 500 to reach the goal - after 57 years it also set a new distance record: the boat needed a mere 10 hours and 13 minutes for the distance of 150 km.

Such record performance could be achieved only by combining the visionary ideas of a radical thinker like Dénes Paulovits, committed teams during construction and race, as well as state-of-the-art materials. 3A Composites is proud to have contributed to this success story with AIREX® T92 SealX .
